Cry Me a River

by: Livia Quinn

Isn’t it just like a man to exit a relationship when he finds out a woman has a few little secrets?

The last time I’d seen my almost boyfriend, Jack Lang, a series of shocks had sent us both reeling, and he got his first glimpse of my Paramortal “talents” – a few measly bolts of lightning aimed at his,  er, in his general direction. I am now the face of the underbelly of Destiny. He says he wants to know everything but once this former Navy pilot finds out the whole truth he’ll probably take the first jet out of Middle Earth. ‘Cause there’s a lot of everything.

Overview

He’s looking for normal, but has he found Mayberry or Middle Earth? The Paramortals have a saying, “One meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.” Our new sheriff stated it thusly: “Paramortal, my as$!”

Isn’t it just like a man to exit a relationship when he finds out a woman has a few little secrets? The last time I’d seen my almost boyfriend, Jack Lang, a series of shocks had sent us both reeling, and he got his first glimpse of my Paramortal “talents” – a few measly bolts of lightning aimed at his—in his general direction. The scant information we’d given him was like a snow crystal on the slopes of the Alps, or like a raindrop in a vast ocean of… extra-normal details.

I tend to think in weather terms since I’m a Tempestaerie, though I’ve denied my heritage for nineteen years—ever since my father died, my mother withdrew, and I was left to raise my brother, River, a Djnni like our father. Sheriff Lang is finally on board with our search for my missing brother but time is running out. In the course of the investigation we’ve gone from attraction to suspicion, support to friendship, romance to oh-my-god-get-away-from-me revulsion.

Jack’s an ex-Navy pilot. He says he wants to know “everything”. My ex-lover and guardian, Dylan McGuinness, says after we answer Jack’s questions, he’ll either join us, or grab his daughter and take the first jet out of Middle Earth.
He may help me save my brother and discover the whereabouts of my parents, but I doubt he’ll still want to take me to the Mardi Gras ball, once he knows “everything”. There’s a lot of everything…

Meet the Author

Livia Quinn grew up outside Washington, D.C. in the subdivision that houses the Redskins Stadium and attended many sporting events with her father, a sports enthusiast. As an only child she became her Daddy's tag along. Ironic, since she loves her football and she's no where near a football stadium now where she currently resides on a sleepy bayou in Southern Louisiana. She brought a phobia of storms to the South where it grew into a character in her books and the Storm Lake series was born. Do you believe that anything can happen? that there is a world of possibilities out there for each of us? This is a recognizable theme in Livia's books. Each of us deserves love, happiness and to be treated with respect as unique human beings, each embodying our own gifts we bring to our sphere of influence. We can each make a difference in someone's life. Livia's father brought her up to believe in herself and in others. She never looked at herself even though she was a girl as being trapped in a mold. As such, she has been a sales person (cars, trucks, burglar bars, fences, cosmetics, graduates), a plant manager, business owner, mail lady, and professional singer. She has so much fodder stored up that she's dying to share with her readers. About love, well... Livia knows... Good things, like love, happen when you least expect.
